Project ENDURO is supported by the Welsh Government through European Regional Development Funding. Total funding, both government and industrial exceeds £500k.

The brief is to design and manufacture two prototype four wheeled downhill mountain bikes predominantly for use by disabled people. One a ‘mid-range’ bike and the other a higher spec ‘elite’ bike, with a view to selling the completed design commercially in 2015.

Managed by Calvin Williams from Gower College Swansea in collaboration with University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea Metropolitan, Project Enduro is now entering its final phase and we are nearing completion of our ‘Mid-range’ Gravity Bike. Our objectives in creating this bike have been:

  • A product which is suitable for as wide a range of users as possible
  • Designed from scratch to be easy to manufacture thus reducing overall cost
  • To use technology familiar to the mountain bike industry, enabling the bike to be serviced easily
  • To improve performance over previous designs, particularly in the areas of suspension, handling and stability

The bike has been developed with feedback from over 40 riders ranging from 5ft to 6ft 2″ in height and from 50 to 120kg in weight. This includes paraplegic athletes, amputees and professional riders. We are nearing a point where component manufacture and final assembly for production will be in place.
